About Author:
Writer Yazmin Beeks is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW). She received her BA in Sociology with a concentration in Criminal Justice at William Paterson University in New Jersey and went on to earn her MSW in 2017 from Rutgers University, School of Social Work. Yazmin began her career working as a childcare counselor in a residential treatment facility for adolescent boys. Since then, Yazmin has experienced working in the macro and micro level of social work providing services to children, adolescents, and adults in various capacities and settings. During her tenure at Rutgers, Yazmin worked closely with her colleagues at Rutgers’ H.E.A.L. Collaborative to conduct a community listening tour to further research social determinants of health in The Greater Newark, New Jersey area. On the micro-level, Yazmin has provided case management services and individual, family, and group therapy. Yazmin has worked with individuals who have experienced issues relating to trauma, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and grief and loss. Yazmin emphasizes a client-centered approach to promote resilience and foster hope for all clients.
